Tobizaru Scarf — 翔猿 — 力士 — Sumo wrestler scarf
I made this scarf to celebrate the sumo wrestler Tobizaru, everyone's compact powerhouse flying monkey! The purple border is a direct reference to his purple mawashi, and his name is at all four corners.
I designed the lettering, both in kanji and romanji, to fit into hearts, a subtle nod to his adorable "heart" pose that he got reprimanded for after doing it too many times (too many, or not enough??).
The scarf feature Tobizaru doing the sumo formalities: Shiko, chirichozu, and salt throwing. Woven among these poses is a fun pattern featuring, you guessed it, flying monkeys.
This scarf is made of a custom poly crepe de chine fabric for both its super-soft and lightweight qualities, as well as ease of cleaning and longevity. The edges are sewn with a neat rolled hem, in purple thread. The size is also long enough to go around your neck twice, if preferred.
48"W × 17"H (121.9cm W × 43,2cm H)
Care: Hand wash gently in cold or lukewarm water, with a few drops of mild detergent per sinkful of water. Hang dry (lightweight fabric dries quickly). A warm iron and light to medium steam will make wrinkles disappear completely. I've tested this numerous times on scarves I'm keeping for myself!
